Law 1

Law is a system of rules (called legal system) usually enforced through a set of institutions. It affects politics, economics and society and serves as a primary social mediator of relations between people. Understanding the basics of law is an inevitable condition for successful business and career.

What are you going to learn

  1. Law - the concept, importance, division - the basic concepts and principles of law, a survey of normative systems, basic explanation of rights and obligations and their enforcement.
  2. Private and public law, types of legal cultures - Understanding the difference between private and public law, substantive and procedural. Characters and continental differences, Anglo-American and Islamic legal system.
  3. Types of legal norms, their validity, effectiveness and binding - The rule of law concept and its features. Explaining the structure of legal norms. From which aspects can be divided into legal norms. Effect of standards in terms of things, space, body and time. The validity and effectiveness of legal norms.
  4. Sources of law - What are the differences between normative legal acts and other sources of law, how the adoption process works laws in the Czech Republic.
  5. Legal relations, legal liability - Assumptions of legal relations. The notion of a sort of legal facts. Subjects and objects of legal relationships. For an explanation of subjective and objective legal liability. Punitive sanctions for breach of its legal obligations and causing the violation.
  6. Application of the law, interpretation of legal norms - What is the application of the law, its types and stages. Merits and its detection. Adjudicate as a result of the application. Constitutive and declaratory act. Interpretation of the law and its methods.
  7. Right national and transnational - Characteristics of national and international law, reception.
  8. With EU law - Basic principles and sources of EU law and the rights of a community, the community court system, EU Institutions.
  9. Constitutional order, the Constitution, the Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms, other constitutional laws - Legislation highest legal force and reach their constitutionally guaranteed rights and their limitations.
  10. State power in the Czech Republic, citizenship - Distribution of state power in the Czech Republic to the legislative, executive and judicial. Acquisition and loss of citizenship.
  11. Judicial system of the Czech Republic - the administration of justice, the role of the courts, their structure and powers.
  12. Constitutional Court and its findings as a source of law - Constitutional Court as a special kind of court, and it issued a decision.

How the course is organized

Full time study

The course consist of 12 lectures, each lasting 1,5 hours.

Part time study

The course is taught in 3 tutorials, each lasting 3 hours.
