Digital Learning from the perspective of significant corporations
This semester, we held Unicorn College Open, the traditionally successful conference, again. It dealt with Digital Learning. Several speakers presented the topic from the perspective of significant corporations. Over 400 attendants participating in the event, held at the Prague Conservatoire premises at Dvořákovo nábřeží, filled the lecture hall completely.
The conference host, Mr. David Hartman (Unicorn) introduced the topic of the conference and individual speakers. Miroslav Dvořák (Microsoft) was the first speaker and presented ways of learning programming basics by means of Minecraft, the famous game. Besides, he showed how MS Office 365 products help in the learning process. Petr Mára (Technoloy Evangelist) followed, introducing ways in which Apple products facilitate learning. He mentioned new possibilities of sharing and receiving documents, ways of using Apple apps for learning or how to monitor student activity on devices. Adam Syrovátka (Unicorn) continued with a lecture demonstrating products of the Unicorn Company enabling digital learning. He presented an application for creating an interactive book or course. These features have been used for education at Unicorn College recently but also for compiling documentation in the Unicorn Company itself. Participants got an opportunity to try out the courses and books first hand in special demo zones during the break.
Jan Čadil (Unicorn College) entered the stage after the break to speak on the use of interactive courses and books in university education. Afterwards, Michal Brožka (Komerční banka) introduced the topic of education in 21st century economy. Radko Pöschl (Unicorn) further elaborated on the topic of books and courses while showing the process of making and updating courses and books. Michal Burian and Michaela Nováková (ZŠ Dědina) finally dealt with the use of the courses in an elementary school. They demonstrated how a course called “Study with a Monster” helps students learn e.g. biology.
Thanks to all participants and we look forward to the next conference in spring.
